June 2023: talk, panel discussion and seminar at the 16th international Jungian Odyssey conference and retreat in Davos, Switzerland. The theme of the retreat was "The Cauldron of Relationships: Do or Die". Organised by the International Society for Analytical Psychology (ISAP), Zurich.

On Saturday 22nd June 2019, I represented the Jungian approach on the psychodynamic panel at the Queering Psychotherapy conference, organised by Confer. 

WRITING

My paper titled Living your animal: listening to wild gender and sexuality has been published in a book and a journal.

Review of Netflix series Ethos (2021) in the journal Studies in Gender and Sexuality. 

Book review: Long, S. & Manley, J. (2019) Social Dreaming: Philosophy, Research, Theory and Practice. This review was published in Transformations, the journal of Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility.

I am currently writing a book on queering Jungian psychology which will be published as part of the Jung, Culture and Politics series by Routledge.

 

In addition, I am writing a chapter for the volume Gender, Sex, and Relationship Therapy: Theory and Practice, edited by Silva Neves, Dominic Davies, and Antonio Prunas, to be published by Routledge. My chapter will be titled "Biopsychosocial – and mysterious! Queer Jungian psychotherapy."

TEACHING

I have been a lecturer at the department of Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies (STACS) at Goldsmiths, University of London since 2017. I currently mainly teach on the MA Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy and BA Applied Psychosocial and Psychotherapy Studies. Also at Goldsmiths, I have developed the introductory course for those interested in training as therapists, which I have taught for many years.

I have also been a guest lecturer at Roehampton University and Birkbeck, University of London.

In addition, I have taught seminars or lectures with the following independent psychotherapy organisations:

  • British Psychotherapy Foundation

  • Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis

  • Society for Analytical Psychology

  • Association for Group and Individual Psychotherapy

  • Instituto Freedom, Brazil

  • Greek Society for the Study of Analytical Psychology (IAAP Router group)

The subjects I teach on include:

  • A range of topics on Jung and Jungian psychology (including the shadow, archetypes, contemporary critiques of anima/animus theory, personality types, transcendent function, and reflecting on and studying Jung's Red Book) 

  • Introducing other major figures of the psychodynamic approach (e.g. Freud, Klein, Winnicott)

  • 'Otherness' and psychoanalytic / Jungian thinking, including race and gender

  • The wounded healer

  • Psychotherapy and spirituality

  • The 'inner/outer' world of the patient

  • Science, rationality and psychotherapy

  • Working with dreams, metaphors, symbols

  • Working in private practice

  • Gender, sexual and relationship diversity, including working with trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals, as well as areas such as non-monogamy and alternative sexual practices such as BDSM or sex work

  • I have also been facilitating reflective / experiential groups with trainee therapists, as well as Social Dreaming Matrix workshops in a variety of settings
